FIFA orders Thanh Hoa to pay USD 305,000 to Rimario: the registration ban is the real problem

On September 10, a document from world football's governing body FIFA reached the Vietnam Football Federation, carrying a ruling on the contract between Jamaican striker Rimario and Thanh Hoa FC. The club owes USD 305,000, roughly VND 8 billion, covering wages, bonuses and signing fees, plus 5% annual interest calculated from June 18, 2026. Thanh Hoa has ten days to request the detailed disciplinary document from FIFA, then 45 days from receipt to complete payment.

Eight billion dong is a large enough figure to make a headline. The more instructive part sits further down, in the sanctions paragraph: miss the deadline and the club is barred from registering new players for three consecutive transfer windows — the mid-season window of 2026-2027, and the pre-season and mid-season windows of 2027-2028. Fail to pay after those three windows and the file moves to FIFA's Disciplinary Committee for heavier punishment. The club can appeal to FIFA's Appeal Committee and then to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, but losing again brings a tougher sanction plus USD 20,000 in costs.
